"My father is an architect, so I'm obsessed with art deco," says designer Amelia Powers of the beautifully structured, London-made bag collection that officially launches on September 15. Named after Hollywood heroes from Busby Berkeley to Greta Garbo, each of the styles can be ordered in the colour or fabric of your choice. "If you're paying for a handbag, you should be able to choose," says Powers, who began her career as a vintage dealer on Portobello Market, sourcing for the likes of Gucci and Stella McCartney.

Though she's better known as "the witch who cuts a mean handbag", Powers has, well, other powers. "I'm also a shaman," she explains with a smile. "I read for some of the biggest businessmen in the country. When they can't sleep, they call me." Not surprisingly, Powers has her own cosmic take on the London riots: "Last week was crazy. Pluto, Jupiter and Uranus all clashed for the first time in thousands of years. And looked what happened."
